What Budha (Mercury) signifies

Budha, Mercury, is the graha of intellect, communication, commerce and analytical skill in Vedic astrology. It governs how a person thinks, speaks, learns and does business, and unlike the more emotionally or physically driven grahas, Budha's whole nature is neutral and adaptable, taking on the character of whichever graha it sits closest to in a chart, which is exactly why classical texts describe it as the most changeable of the nine. A well placed Budha is read as wit, quick learning and genuine skill with numbers or language; a weak or afflicted one as nervousness, indecision or difficulty in communication. Because Budha is never far from the Sun in the sky, it is also read together with combustion, how close it sits to Surya in a chart, since a heavily combust Budha is traditionally considered weakened regardless of its sign placement.

Budha is exalted at 15 degrees of Virgo and debilitated at the opposite point, 15 degrees of Pisces.
