What is Purohit?
Purohit is an AI Vedic astrology guide on WhatsApp. Its voice, Purohit Ji, explains a birth chart that a deterministic engine has computed from your date, time and place of birth, and answers your questions about it in conversation.
Is Purohit Ji a human astrologer?
No. Purohit Ji is an AI built on a classical Jyotish corpus (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Phaladeepika, Saravali, Jataka Parijata and others). There are no human astrologers on staff and no professional credentials are claimed.
Is Purohit free?
Creating your kundli, muhurta, today's panchang, basic kundli milan and understanding your own reading are always free. New users also receive a number of free interpretive readings to start. Beyond that, reading packs and subscriptions are available.
What do the paid plans cost?
A reading pack of 5 is Rs 49 and a pack of 20 is Rs 99. Monthly plans are Rs 299 for 10 readings a day or Rs 999 for fair-use unlimited (currently 50 a day). Yearly plans are Rs 1,999 for 20 readings a day or Rs 5,999 for fair-use unlimited. Payments go through Razorpay by UPI.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Message the words 'cancel plan' to Purohit on WhatsApp. A monthly plan renews by UPI Autopay until you do this; the yearly plan is a single payment and never auto-renews.
Which languages does Purohit support?
English, Hindi, Kannada and Tamil. You can switch language in the chat, and Purohit replies in the language you use.
Can I send voice notes?
Yes. Purohit understands WhatsApp voice notes and can reply with voice in all four supported languages, so you can talk to it the way you talk to anyone else.
How accurate is the chart calculation?
Planetary positions come from the Swiss Ephemeris with the Lahiri ayanamsa, the same basis used by professional Vedic astrology software. The chart itself is deterministic: the same birth details always produce the same chart.
What if I do not know my exact birth time?
Give the closest time you have. The lagna, houses and divisional charts depend on birth time, so an approximate time gives an approximate chart; Purohit Ji will tell you which parts of a reading are sensitive to that uncertainty.
How is the dasha calculated?
Purohit computes Vimshottari dasha, both mahadasha and antardasha, from the Moon's nakshatra and its exact fraction at birth. See the dasha explainer under Learn for how the 120-year cycle is laid out.
What is manglik dosha, in brief?
A classical indication based on where Mars sits in the birth chart. Purohit computes a final verdict from the actual chart positions, with the exact houses and cancellations it applies described on the manglik dosha page. It is a structure to understand, not a curse.
What is kaal sarp dosha?
A pattern where all planets fall between Rahu and Ketu. Purohit's engine checks this from computed positions and gives a computed verdict; the details and what it does and does not mean are on the kaal sarp dosha page.
What is sade sati?
The roughly seven-and-a-half-year period when transiting Saturn passes over the signs on either side of, and over, your natal Moon. Purohit computes your start, end and current phase from an actual Saturn ingress scan, not from a lookup table.
How does kundli matching work?
Purohit computes the ashtakoot (36-guna) matching of two charts, and a separate South Indian Porutham (10-factor) matching for Tamil users. Basic kundli milan is free; Purohit Ji can then discuss what the score does and does not mean.
Can I ask about family members?
Yes. You can add another person's birth details and ask about their chart, or about a match between two charts. Purohit keeps each person's chart separate so the reading refers to the right one.
Does Purohit give medical, legal or financial advice?
No. Purohit is for spiritual reflection, cultural tradition and entertainment. Astrology is a belief system, not a science. For health, legal or money decisions, consult a qualified professional.
What happens to my data?
Conversations are treated as confidential. Your data is never sold and never shared with third parties for their own purposes; it is processed only by vetted infrastructure providers. Full details are in the terms, which also serve as the privacy policy.
Can I have my data deleted?
Yes. Write to namaste@purohit.io to request access, correction or deletion of your personal data.
Do reading pack credits expire?
Yes. Credits from a reading pack expire 90 days after purchase. Subscriptions do not use credits; they give a daily allowance for the period you paid for.
