Raksha Bandhan celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters, observed on the Full Moon of the lunar month Shravana. A sister ties a rakhi, a decorated thread, on her brother's wrist as a symbol of protection and affection, and he in turn promises to look after her; the custom today extends well beyond blood siblings to any close, protective relationship.
